SEO Relevant Filenames

The simplest method to improve your search engine optimization is to look at the way of giving names to your files because search engines like Google give too much importance to file names. You must think about what you want to be put on your web page and then give a relevant file name to your page. The way you give names to your files affects the SEO of your website. Giving relevant file names matter a lot to google so it gives too much importance to your given file names.
Try to give any keyword in Google search engine and you will find the file names highlighted with the keyword you have given, it shows that your file name should have appropriate keywords.

What are the Filenames?

The filename is the name of the file which is used to recognize a computer file in the file system. Keywords and file names work hand in hand. When you provide relevant keywords to name your file, you will see it gets highlighted by Google.

Example:

javascript-learn-seo-relevant-filenames.html
The above example is a good selection for filenames because in the above example hyphens are used instead of underscores which means putting underscores is not a good idea because underscores are not easily detectable by Google crawlers while searching for a website.

File Naming Style:

  • The filename must be preferably short and descriptive.
  • It is usually good to apply the same keyword in a filename and in the page title.
  • Do not use filenames together with service.htm or process.htm as they are generic. Use the actual name of services to your file name including computer-repairing.htm.
  • Do not use more than 3-4 words in document names.
  • Separate the keywords with hyphens in place of underscores.
  • Try to use 2 keywords if possible.

File Extension:

The extensions such as .html, .php or .html are if no use for the visitors and its just a way to configure your website to make it readable for the webserver. It does not have to do with the relevancy of the keywords. It does not help you in any way you give names to your files. It does not tell the users which page they are browsing and how relevant the page name is.

Use of Links with Relevant Filenames:

The filenames with links play an important role in enhancing SEO. When you submit your website to Google then inbound links are very important and can’t be missed by web spiders while crawling. And if these links are composed of relevant keywords then it would create some go-to filenames to look for.
Sometimes web spider avoids crawling on dynamic web pages because they are made of complicated file name structures and can be neglected while doing SEO work for your website and so, a relevant and easily detectable filename is a must.
