WordPress categories are used to define sections of your site and group related posts. ‘Uncategorized’ is the default category, but this can be easily changed in your settings. Pages cannot be associated with Categories. You can only associate Categories to Posts.
How to add categories:
Firstly, go to the “Posts” and then select the “Categories” menu option you will be shown a list of categories that have already been added along with some blank fields. These fields allow you to add a new category.
To add a new category, fill the blank fields.
After filling all the above blank fields, click on “Add New Category” button, your new category will be added.
How to Edit Category:
To edit categories, firstly go to the “Posts” then select the “Categories” option. Move your mouse to the category you want to edit and then click on the “Edit” link. Here you can change name, slug, add or remove a parent category, edit or add a description.
How to Delete Category:
To delete categories, firstly go to the “Posts” then select the “Categories” option. Move your mouse to the category you want to delete and then click on the “Delete” link. If you deleting a category, its posts will not be deleted instead they will be transferred to by default category. Please remember you can’t delete a by default category, before deleting it assign by default status to some other category.
How to Convert Categories to Tags:
Categories and tags in WordPress are both pre-defined taxonomies. The categories in WordPress are like sections of a website while tags are like keywords. WordPress provides you an option to change your categories into tags or tags into categories. To do that, firstly go to the “Tools” then select “Import” and click on “Categories and Tags Converter”. After selecting Categories and Tags Converter, asking you to install the importer, click on the “Install Now” button.
After installation click on “Run Importer”. Now, you can select any option either to convert categories to tags or tags to categories.
